This workshop explores glazing approaches tailored specifically for wood and soda firing. Led by Suzy Dunser, participants will learn how slips and glazes interact with flame, ash, and atmosphere to create unique surfaces.
The session will include a review of slips and glazes available at WSP, when and why to use them, and when to leave clay surfaces bare to allow natural effects to develop. Participants will also learn practical application techniques, including layering slips and glazes to achieve depth and variation.
Ideal for those preparing work for a wood firing, this workshop will help you make confident, intentional surface decisions.
Participants should bring bisque ware ready for glazing.
Bring along a shared kai for lunch — a great chance to connect and chat with others in the workshop.
For a more complete understanding of the process, consider taking Making for Wood Firing on the 8th of August, which focuses on creating forms suited to atmospheric firing.
