Taking Back our Beach is a 90-minute feature film that celebrates the Bay of Plenty's incredible response to New Zealand’s largest environmental disaster - the Rena grounding on Astrolabe Reef/Otaiti, on October 5, 2011.

This is a film everyone will be inspired by.

The Bay of Plenty premiere of 'Taking Back Our Beach' is being held at United Cinemas Bayfair on October 5, 2023, the 12th anniversary of the disaster.

We encourage everyone attending the red carpet premiere to don some glam gear and enjoy an evening out.

5.30pm - 5.45pm Check in with your ticket

5.45pm - 6.15pm Enjoy red carpet experience, purchase cinema popcorn $2, drink $2, icecream $3 or buy from the bar.

6.15pm Find your seat in Cinema 1 (be aware there is a Sunrise Rotary wildlife fundraiser event in Cinema 2)

6.25pm Official premiere welcome in Cinema 1.

6.30pm Film starts - 'Taking Back Our Beach'

8pm Please remain seated for 20 minute Q&A in Cinema 1 with filmmakers and interviewee guest speakers.

8.30pm - 9.30pm After-film mix 'n mingle in Dine Lane, Bayfair (stroll around to the Dine Lane where Iza Kai, The Freeport with Cleaver & Co, and Viet Lane will be providing drinks and bar snacks for you to purchase). Enjoy chatting with the filmmakers, sponsors, supporters, interviews and film crew.less
