"The course was truly life-altering for me. The content was interesting and engaging, yet nothing ever felt too overwhelming. The importance placed on the comfort of the group was paramount and the facilitators did this effortlessly. I couldn't recommend this course enough for both work place health and safety or purely for self betterment and to gain a greater understanding of Mental Health and Mental Health in Aotearoa."

Do you feel equipped to respond to someone in mental distress?

Do you have a Mental Health First Aider in your organisation?

Mental health concerns in New Zealand are common. Approximately one in five adults will experience mental illness in any given year. That means that anyone living in New Zealand can expect to have close contact with someone who is struggling with their mental health.

Whilst most people know something about common first aid problems such as cuts and grazes, coughs and colds, sprains and strains, we’re often less equipped to recognize and help with the mental health equivalent.

Regular first aid courses are effective in improving people’s skills and confidence in giving initial aid in a medical emergency. First aiders save lives. Now Mental Health First Aiders are saving lives too!

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental health first aid is the help given to someone developing a mental illness, such as depression, anxiety, or substance misuse- or who is in a mental health crisis, like panic attacks, self-injury, aggressive behaviour.

Mental health first aid is the response given until appropriate professional support is received or until the crisis resolves.

What will you learn?

The MHFA certificate teaches you how to assist someone who is struggling with their mental health, experiencing distress or in a mental health crisis. You will learn a framework for assisting and supporting in a safe way with confidence.
