New Zealand sends about 100,000 tonnes of clothing to landfill each year – about 44kg per person. Textiles create about three times their weight in CO2 in landfill – so while they make up 5-6 per cent of landfill, they produce about 30 per cent of the carbon impacts
Orna & Kalena have teamed up to run this cool workshop saving jeans from landfill these school holidays.
There is so many things we can do and we are here to get those creative juices flowing.
1. Bleach dye

2. Jean re-styling

Skirts, shorts, scrunchies, rips, patchwork, and more
Orna will be assisting on the sewing machines, or you are welcome to bring your own along.
Beginner levels are welcome.
Time: 3pm to 6pm

First pair of jeans is included in your ticket price.
Jeans after that will be $3 each. Bleach & jeans $5
If you have old jeans that are stained, ripped, unloved you are welcome to bring them along, let's see what we can do with them or pass them on to someone else.

- Please note this is domestic grade bleach only
- Long-sleeved shirts and pants and closed shoes are required
- Gloves and eye protection will be supplied and required to be worn during the activity
- No eating, drinking during this activity
- All use if bleach will be in an outdoor ventilated area only
The Incubator Creative Hub Supervision Policy:
- All children between 10 and 14 years old need to be accompanied by a guardian
- The guardian must remain onsite at the Historic Village during the duration. We have plenty of great spaces for them to hang out or wander around close by and a mobile contact must be provided by guardian.
