DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THIS PRESENTATION/WORKSHOP\n\nIt is critical that agencies, professionals and the wider community\nrecognise the signs, symptoms and dynamics associated with\nstrangulation in the context of intimate partner violence (IPV). \nDescribed as ‘a red flag on the trajectory to homicide’,\nstrangulation together with other associated risk markers should be\nconsidered in all risk assessment and safety planning processes.\n\nThis workshop also introduces topics such as traumatic brain injury\n(TBI), sexual violence, threatening behaviour and other factors\nincluding ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) to enhance\ndecision-making and ultimately safety for victims, families and\nwhanau.\n\nBy the end of this workshop participants will be able to:\n\n 	* Define strangulation in the context of intimate partner violence\n 	* Describe the signs, symptoms and injuries associated with\nstrangulation\n 	* Know some of the resources available to facilitate effective\ndocumentation\n 	* Understand behaviours often associated with strangulation\nincluding TBI, sexual violence, threats and separation\n 	* Apply learnings to risk assessment and safety planning\n 	* Consider how an awareness of ACEs could be included in current\norganisational practice.\n\n \n\nTHE PRESENTER\n\nRob has worked in the family violence sector for over 30 years.  His\nwork in this area was recognised in the New Year Honours list in\n2006.  He shares his extensive experience from Police, an inaugural\nmember of the New Zealand Family Violence Death Review Committee,\ninternational experience with NZAID and health experience through his\nrole as the Violence Intervention Programme Coordinator for CCDHB.\n\nRob has developed and delivered training to many groups throughout New\nZealand on a range of family violence-related topics.  Leading up to\nand since the introduction of specific strangulation legislation, Rob\nhas delivered presentations at workshops and conferences throughout\nNew Zealand, raising community awareness of strangulation in the\ncontext of intimate partner violence as a significant public health\nissue.\n\n \n\nTO ARRANGE A WORKSHOP ON GROUP RATE BASIS AT A TIME AND PLACE TO\nBETTER SUIT YOU.  PLEASE CONTACT ROB DIRECTLY ON 027-498-8653\n[tel:027-498-8653].  IF YOU ARE A GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT OR\nORGANISATION THAT NEEDS TO BE INVOICED PLEASE ALSO CALL ROB DIRECTLY.\n\n \n - robveale@xtra.co.nz - https://www.eventspronto.co.nz/Whanganui030822
