DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:\n\nLearn to make and use paints and dyes using natural materials that\nhave been traditionally gathered by hand from the local whenua\n(land). In this workshop, your tutor, Jera Mae will teach about\nMātauranga, the Maori and Polynesian body of knowledge of\ninterconnectedness and interrelationships of all living and non-living\nthings in order to maintain and restore our environment.\n\nJera Mae’s goal is to spread awareness on climate justice by\nsustaining and teaching others indigenous methodologies that have\nalways sustained Papatūānuku (mother earth) and continue to do so\nas she applies indigenous methodologies to fit today's society. This\nworkshop will be introduced in the framework of tikanga which\nincorporates practices and values from Maori culture with an emphasis\non female empowerment & sustainability.\n\nIn this 4 hour workshop, you will learn to create paints and dyes\nfrom the whenua, make your own artworks on handmade paper and\nexperiment with handmade dye using a variety of natural fibres.\nJera will also share her own body of works from her clothing label\nJera Mae to show how indigenous methodologies can be brought into\ncontemporary fashion to create a sustainable brand.\n\nABOUT THE ARTIST:\n\nFounder of her label _Jera Mae_, Jera Mae-Smith Stanley is a graduate\nof the Creative Industries degree at Toiohomai Institute of\nTechnology, majoring in Fashion. Jera is practicing to be sustainable\nand ethical in her designs and all facets of life.
