DESCRIPTION:4 September 2021\n\nA MEMBER-ONLY EVENT.\n\nIf you haven't been part of a raku firing before, they are fun,\ndramatic, and yield unpredictable but breathtaking results.\n\nGet involved with handling glowing things! Our raku expert, David,\nwill run this event providing our members with an opportunity to fire\na few items.\n\nBRING:\n\nBisque fired pieces, ideally Raku-glazed previously and ready to go.\nIf more than 2 loads some glazing can be done on the day. Small pieces\nare more likely to survive while bigger pieces benefit from a good\nRaku clay. Pieces under 180mm.\n\nTraining on how to help and safety procedures will be given on the\nday. Wear long pants (jeans ideal) and closed shoes.\n\n9:30 kiln setup.\n\nBriefing and firing from ~10 am.\n\nCOSTS:\n\nTo book, a non-refundable $6 booking fee is required which also covers\nyour Play With Play session for the morning. There is a small fee for\nthe area taken up in the kiln. A Raku firing sheet\n[https://www.eventspronto.co.nz/vdb/document/468] will be used to\ncalculate the kiln space and cost. A Raku firing sheet will be used\nto calculate the kiln space and remaining cost. \n\nINFORMATION SESSION: Saturday 21 August, 10.15-12.15\n\nIf you have not been involved in a Raku firing, this helpful\ninformation session is being held two weeks before the firing.\nDiscussion will include: what is likely to break, things to consider\nfor quick Raku firing, appropriate Raku glazes and suggestions for\napplying.\nBring pieces you have made.
