DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THIS PRESENTATION/WORKSHOP\n\nFear and distress – some of the reactions victims have to\nstalking.  But stalking is far more – it is ‘AN INVASION OF THE\nMIND’.  It is critical that advocates, professionals and the wider\ncommunity agencies recognise the debilitating effects of stalking,\nespecially in the context of intimate partner violence (IPV) but also\ninvolving people in non-familial relationships.  New Zealand recently\nintroduced stalking legislation in May 2026.  This presentation\nprovides participants with an opportunity to have a conversation about\nstalking, to consider the implications of the legislation for their\npractice.\n\nBy the end of this ‘workshop’ participants will be able to:\n\n * Understand the recent stalking legislation introduced in May 2026\n * Understand stalking and the context in which stalking occurs\n * Understand behaviours often associated with stalking including use\nof technology\n * Describe the dynamics associated with stalking (including the SLII\nframework), the typology and demographics of people involved and\nrelationships between victims and perpetrators\n * Have conversations with victims/survivors about stalking\n * Apply learnings to risk assessment and safety planning processes\n * Know where to find some of the resources available to inform your\npolicy and practice.\n\nTHE PRESENTER\n\nRob has worked in the family violence sector for over 35 years.  His\nwork in this area was recognised in the New Year Honours list in\n2006.  He shares his extensive experience from Police, an inaugural\nmember of the New Zealand Family Violence Death Review Committee,\ninternational experience throughout the Pacific with NZAID and health\nexperience through his role as the Violence Intervention Programme\nCoordinator for CCDHB.\n\nRob has developed and delivered training to groups and communities\nthroughout New Zealand on a wide range of family violence-related\ntopics including risk assessment and safety planning, strangulation in\nthe context of IPV, specific workplace and wider inter-agency\nresponses to family violence.\n - robveale@xtra.co.nz - https://www.eventspronto.co.nz/Porirua12
