DESCRIPTION:UNORTHODOX POTTERY with Hawi Winter\nSaturday 14th June 10am to 4pm\n\nHawi wowed the crowd at this year's Festival of Clay with his\ningenious home-made pottery tools. So he's here by popular demand to\nlead a fabulous fun-filled day of invention, exploration and\ncreativity. Haere mai!\n\nThis workshop caters to all levels from absolute beginners to\nexperienced potters.\n\nThere will be multiple workstations and a variety of different modules\nthat you can choose from. Hawi will combine demonstrations with\nhands-on activities. Clay will be provided and is included in the\nprice.\n\nHere's what's on offer\n\nTOOL MAKING\n- Reshaping cookie cutters (coil feet)\n- Making templates using the rolling method\n- Paddles\n- Ice cream stick stamps\n- Opposing stamp pairs\n- Multifaceted stamps\n- Converting woodcuts into stamps\n- Using blow-torches and hot air guns\n- Making underglaze painting bottles\n\nTECHNIQUES:\n- Crack pottery with slabs\n- Wedge wedging\n- Using glass with pottery\n- Painting without a paintbrush \n- Making structured korus and snails\n- Making hanging pots\n\nPlease email the manager with the subjects that interest you most.\nHawi will tailor the day's activities based on everyone's preferences.\n\nWHAT TO BRING\n- WSP has lots of tools you can use, but bring along your favourites\ntoo.\n- A notebook. You are welcome to take photos too.\n- Pottery is messy, so a hand towel and/or apron can be helpful.\n- Wear closed-toe footwear and comfortable clothes you don't mind\ngetting dirty.\n- We like to share a lunch on our workshop days, so if you have the\ncapacity, please bring a kai to share.\n\nHAWI WINTER \nHailing from Germany and with a background in organic chemistry, Hawi\nhas a very singular approach to pottery. He has assiduously eschewed\noutside influences, preferring to follow his own instincts and\nexplorations. He has developed a plethora of unique tools and\ntechniques. Hawi prefers slab pottery, and works with molds,\ndecorating his pieces using his very own carved stamps, rollers and\nsprigs.\n\nHawi and wife Susann live on their 10 hectare block in North Waikato.\nOver the last 34 years or so they've planted thousands of trees\nincluding over 200 fruit and nut varieties.\n\nHawi has a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Marburg,\nGermany.\n - manager@waikatopotters.co.nz - https://www.eventspronto.co.nz/hawi_winter_workshop
