DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY 29 MARCH: 9AM TO 4PM\n\nMORNING SESSION - Raw slipping techniques\nLearn how to apply slips to raw pots, including application methods,\nresists, traditional slipping techniques such as sgraffito and slip\nrecipes. Slips work with the underlying clay body to produce the broad\nrange of surfaces and colours that we can achieve in the wood fired\nsoda kiln. They can also incorporate local clays to create distinctive\nsurfaces. Students will need to bring a selection of pieces (up to 6)\nthat are at the leather hard stage and one piece at the bone dry\nstage. \n\nAFTERNOON SESSION - Slipping and glazing on bisque ware\nThis session looks at application of slips and glazes, including using\nthe spray gun, pouring aids, resists, layering, use of underglaze and\nslip recipes. Students will need to bring a selection of pieces (up to\n6) that are bisque fired.\n\nWe are specifically looking at techniques and slips/glazes formulated\nfor the wood/soda kiln, so may not be suitable for cone 6 firings.\n\nWHAT TO BRING:\n\n 	* Notebook\n 	* P2 facemasks will be provided but if you have your own respirator\n(e.g. P3) we recommend bringing it\n 	* We like to share a lunch on our workshop days so if you have the\ncapacity, please bring a kai to share.\n\nYOUR TUTOR\n\nIn 1998 Duncan graduated with a Bachelor in 3D design, majoring in\nceramics from UNITEC and since then has been working as a studio\npotter. He was Co-Director of the Auckland Studio Potters from 2000\nto 2007 and the Manager of the Waikato Society of Potters from 2008 to\n2012. He moved to Karangahake in 2014 and set up Rahu Road Pottery.\nDuncan makes a range of wheel thrown functional pots. He teaches a\nrange of workshops from his studio including kiln firing, glazing and\nthrowing classes. Duncan also delivers off-site workshops at pottery\nclubs and private studios around the country. A full refund will be given if the class is\ncancelled by the WSP less a 5% credit card fee. If a student cancels\ntheir enrolment within 72 hours of the first class starting, no refund\nwill be given. If a student cancels their booking less than 7 days\nprior to the event a 50% administration charge will be deducted from\nthe refund.
