DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP\n\nResearch suggests that family violence homicides are the most\npredictable of all homicides.  They don’t happen out of the blue\nand therefore present the greatest opportunity for prevention.\n\nProfessionals engaging with people affected by family violence should\nunderstand the dynamics, scope and practicalities associated with both\nrisk assessment as part of the safety planning process.  While it is\ncritical to ensure the ‘voice and experiences’ of the victim is\nintegrated into the safety planning process, practitioners must also\napply their expertise to identify and understand escalating risks of\nserious harm and potentially death.\n\nBy the end of this workshop participants will be able to:\n\n * Recognise the importance of risk assessment as part of the safety\nplanning process\n * Consider some of the types of risk assessment tools used in the\ncontext of IPV\n * Understand and describe common risk markers associated with family\nviolence and serious harm\n * Be aware of stalking as a high risk marker of serious harm in the\ncontext of IPV\n * Be able to apply their understanding of risk assessment to\nworkshop scenarios (note: details of actual cases will be presented in\nthis session).\n\nTHE PRESENTER\n\nRob has worked in the family violence sector for over 30 years.  His\nwork in this area was recognised in the New Year Honours list in\n2006.  He shares his extensive experience from Police, an inaugural\nmember of the New Zealand Family Violence Death Review Committee,\ninternational experience with NZAID and health experience through his\nrole as the Violence Intervention Programme Coordinator for CCDHB.\n\n \n\nRob has developed and delivered training to groups and communities\nthroughout New Zealand on a range of family violence-related topics\nincluding risk assessment, strangulation in the context of IPV,\nspecific workplace and wider inter-agency responses to family\nviolence.\n\n \n\n \n\n \n - robveale@xtra.co.nz - https://www.eventspronto.co.nz/Porirua3
