Meet the local candidates from parties competing at the General Election. Six representatives will speak and be available for questions and answers. Other candidates will also be present.
Please note that as of noon on 22 Sept the National Party will not be represented at this event. Unexpected circumstances mean both candidates are unavailable. Labour, Greens, Act and NZ First will be present.
On behalf of the Social Sector in the western Bay of Plenty we have the following questions to ask of our candidates:
- The community, iwi and voluntary sector has been under-funded historically and the pandemic and economic downturn have compounded these problems. What does your party intend to do to address under funding of community organisations that deliver essential services to communities?
Context to the question: SociaLink has joined with 4 national peak organisations to ask all political parties for a commitment to sustainable funding practices, make funding more accessible and diversifying funding sources.
And two other questions…
- What is your party going to do about the growing divide between the ‘have’s and have-nots’ and the dire impact of poverty on people’s lives?
- How does your party give expression to te Tiriti o Waitangi and propose to address the impact of colonisation
