About the Workshop:
Deepen your connection with papatūānuku (mother earth) and embrace your female empowerment. Using the framework of indigenous practices and values, Jera will help you understand the powerful bond women have with the whenua (land) and share examples of how you can cultivate your relationship to papatuanuku to sustain her and yourself. This course is a safe space to learn and share alongside other women.
In this 4 hour workshop, Jera will teach you to make paints and dyes from the whenua, create your artworks on handmade paper and hand dye a cushion cover made by Jera. You will leave this workshop fully equipped with the knowledge to carry on exploring painting and dyeing with whenua & a cushion cover of your own to take home.
“From participating in a Kokowai workshop, another participant and I have developed a friendship where we can continue to share our experiences of womanhood that wouldn’t have happened without the indigenous teachings that framed the workshop and the safe environment Jera provided.”
This workshop was created with support from CreativeNZ Creative Community Scheme - helping to build resilience in the creative sector.
Masks must be worn for the duration of the workshop. Thank you for understanding and for helping to keep our community safe.
