Have an idea that requires making multiples of a certain shape? By using a plaster mould you get quick, easy and consistent results.
Carol Stewart, a well-resprected ceramist whose work often incorporates multiples to emphasise an idea, will teach you how to make unique one and two-piece plaster moulds suitable for clay press-moulding and/or slip-casting.
-
Students need to bring an item from which to cast a one-piece mould. Suitable items might be a fancy button, a dolls face, a piece of lace, a shell, cabbage leaves etc. Avoid items with undercuts – they will not replicate cleanly.
-
-
Also bring an item from which to make a two-piece mould. A vegetable or piece of fruit is a good practice item. Please do not expect to create a mould of a cherished piece – remember this is a learning process!!
-
-
Note : we will test the moulds created in the class by press moulding. The moulds need to dry for about a week before they can be used with casting slip.
